NATHALIE
MANSER >
virtuoso cello player, has been brought up since her early childhood in
the world of classical music. After having obtained a "1er Prix de
Virtuosité with Jury's congratulations and the highest diploma of the
State Musical Academy of Lausanne, the "Concert Licence" (studying
under Philippe Mermoud), she had the opportunity to play with several
orchestras in the French part of Switzerland and has continued her musical
education by following Master Classes in Germany (Freiburg). As
it appears >
the rigidity of classical music could hardly offer her any room for
personal creation or interpretation. For this reason, NATHALIE MANSER
moved away from classical music in order to create her own musical
compositions and adaptations with the cello. Thanks
> to
her knowledge and mastery of the instrument, she has been able to produce
her own personal and sensual music issuing from "World Music"
and "Meditative" trends. NATHALIE
MANSER's >
great and magical
encounter with DAVID RICHARDS, the famous and talented sound engineer/producer,
himself director of the MOUNTAIN STUDIOS in Montreux on Lake Geneva (
where QUEEN, FREDDIE MERCURY, MICHAEL JACKSON, DAVID BOWIE and others have
realised their productions), has given the opportunity to affirm her
creational ability and to realise a number of musical pieces rich in
emotion and poetry. The
recent > collaboration
of Nathalie Manser with Messrs. Michel Roudnitska and Jacques Morard
enabled her to extend her musical world to a much vaster show presentation
: Michel
Roudnitska >
French perfumer and producer (Grasse,
France) allowed Nathalie Manser to conceive a new multi-sensorial show,
consisting of a combination of fragrances and images accompanying her
music. This was the beginning of a joint production, "World
Scents" which invites the public to an olfactive and sensorial voyage
around the world, made of emotions, dreams and poetry. Jacques
Morard > of
the company "J'imagine Evénements et Spectacles" gave Nathalie
Manser the opportunity to join her world of music to a show of water and
fireworks that, combined together, makes a wonderful visual and enchanting
scene.

Studying at the Conservatoire de Musique Lausanne I
absolutely loved
studying at the “Conservatoire de Lausanne” in the class of Philippe
Mermoud. Apart from
teaching me the technique and the compulsory discipline associated with
the mastery of playing the cello, Philippe has brought with him his
humanistic approach of the instrument and he taught me how to express
and interpret the major classical works of the repertory. He
has been my Cello Father and I
keep calling on him to present him the music I have composed. As I am very critical of my work and a perfectionist, I have a
feeling I shall never cease to continue learning and be satisfied with
what I have achieved. Amongst
the cello music composed by great classical composers, I prefer romantic
works and composers such as Dvorak, Schumann, Saint Saëns, Rachmaninov,
Beethoven… These are the works where I feel free to express my own
feelings, without restraint, with passion and following my inner nature. Playing
Bach, Haydn, Boccherini, Schubert allow me to keep up with the technique
of the instrument.This
is, in my opinion, the only way to keep up with the technique. On
the contrary I cannot interpret contemporary works : I see no harmony in
them and I simply cannot feel
any way of putting any of my feelings in playing them.
It seems to me to be impossible to interpret abstract music, or
to experiment the various sounds. I
disliked studying the scales… and was bored in all basic sol-fa theory
lessons!!!
